Hello, Can anyone help with this please? I have a bizarre problem with one of the pc's on my LAN. Using Firefox i can browse to any website but if i try to browse to the same website using IE i get 'Page cannot be displayed".
I have tried reapplying SP2, been through IE and reset all the defaults, security settings, deleted all temp files, cookies, history, made sure there is nothing in the proxy settings etc but still IE just refuses to work. I have also reset the tcp/ip stack and re-registered a bunch of DLL's. The pc can still access all resources on the LAN without problems, i can even control it remotely using RDP.
The pc had the latest version of IE 6 so i tried upgrading it to IE 7 but still no joy.
Has anyone seen this before and if so can they suggest a solution please? I'd be most grateful.
Thanks everyone,
Agent Smith.

Agent Smith, SWAG, sounds suspiciously like a nasty. Trojan? Think I'd scan for one to be sure.

once I had a virus which made me the same problem, at first I didn't know that it was a virus, but then I got it,,,
so be sure that ur PC is clean,,
Note: this virus just attack IE, but i realyy can;t remember it's name, coz it was in the past,,
good day.

Did you check the Connetcion Tab in IE Properties? Someone could have set it to dial out for connection instead of using the LAN connection. Just a thought.

Some might consider the disabling of I.E. to be a "hidden security feature". If I.E. doesn't work, a great number of Windows security holes are plugged. I'm sure many of us are envious of your situation.
Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

Why do people think every single problem should be blamed on a trojan? This just spreads unnecessary fear among the masses. That is highly unlikely for a problem like this. If it were a trojan I doubt you'd be able to connect at all.
Did you check your firewall settings?

Hi all,
Sorry for the delay, I've been away and did not have a chance to post back....
New info received...
A full AV scan in Safe Mode followed by a reboot and a full scan using Adaware revealed no results. I dont believe this is caused by a Trojan/spyware nasty. Also the pc in question does not have a Firewall installed. Interestingly enough the pc CAN connect to https sites, it's just http sites that it cannot connect to. This is strange!!!!
Any ideas anyone? Im stumped!!!

I had the same problem all weekend. Here is what fixed it for me: In IExplorer, go to TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS, CONNECTIONS, LAN SETTINGS, and uncheck all boxes. Done! and fixed problem.
