I've been a long time fan of Mozilla Firefox but now I'm beginning to wonder.
For some reason it has a terrible time trying to access simple sites like ebay and yahoo mail etc.
Internet is working fine and I even reverted back to IE which the same sites work fine in.
I click and pages seem to load before I can get my finger off button.
Firefox used to be this way???
I'm running Firefox 2.0.0.11.
Anyone else having this problem and have any ideas how to fix it? I'd really prefer firefox.

did you try the fasterfox addon?
The main reason I prefer IE7 over firefox is because you have to have an addon for almost everything. Not so with IE.Have you tried ATF Cleaner? That works well cleaning junk out of firefox also

"Anyone else having this problem and have any ideas how to fix it?"
No problems with mine.Good suggestion of XpUser4Real to run AFT-Cleaner, probably something is corrupted with your FF.

ludedude25,
Did you know that if you try to open a large set of tabs, Firefox may slow down? If this is what you do, configure Tabs Options by placing checkmark on Warn me when opening multiple tabs might slow down Firefox.

Well I downloaded ATF cleaner and figured i'd give it a go. It said removed like 108mb of stuff.
Forgot to mention I have clear private data set on firefox to remove everything when I close firefox. Everything checked except cookies & saved passwords. I've done it ever since the option was available. I usually don't run more than 1-2 tabs tops. I mainly notice the slowdown on places like ebay, yahoo, yahoo or google search, and checking yahoo mail.
I try to keep my computer running tip top without collecting a bunch of junk.
I can't really say I've had any problems whatsoever with firefox till upgrading to the version 2's.

Mine is slow also. Same version. Same problems.
I've actually started us IE6 again which I haven't done in years. (Or at least IE in general)
Wish I could figure it out.
So many problems with this version.

Try these settings, by copying & pasting > about:config into the Address bar & hitting Enter.
network.http.pipelining TRUE
network.http.pipelining.maxrequest s 16
network.http.proxy.pipelining TRUEWhen done close FF, reboot & see if it is Ok.

Mine already set to those values.
Well, except I had 15 instead of 16.

Try in Safe Mode, if still not up to speed, uninstall completely ( including profiles ) Use search to make sure all FF is gone, then reinstall.

Johnw, have you ever tried removing firefox? Good luck, because it so embedded on a PC, that it is near impossible.
The only way to get a fresh FF install is to install it into a different location on the HD...I know...I had to do that to make it work properly. Some HELP in posting on Cnet plus free progs and instructions Glad to Help!

well it's been ok so far. it's peped back up to normal.
I also forgot about that ff tweak so I applied it also and will see if it too makes any difference.

No problem XpUser4Real.On my personal comp, to completely remove Firefox, uninstall & then delete these folders.
C:\Documents and Settings\John\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox
C:\Documents and Settings\John\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox
That normally should be enough ( having previously run AFT ) to really make sure, do a search for Mozilla & Firefox.
If you have any other Mozilla products installed ( Like Thunderbird or K-Meleon etc ) you have to be selective. To go another step, use this, putting Firefox & then Mozilla into search.

3: When searching is finished, click on > Select All & choose > Select all Green items.
4: Right click on any Green item & click on > Delete selected items.
RegSeeker is also very good for registry searching, click on > Find in registry, tick all the boxes in > Keys, put a word ( example Firefox ) in > Search for: & click > Search. Now you have a list on one page, of all the registry entries for Firefox.

Hi Johnw,
Unfortunately I had tried all that and without installing FF in a new folder, it still malfunctioned.
Thanks for the extensive infoSome HELP in posting on Cnet plus free progs and instructions Glad to Help!

I've just noticed this as well with Firefox after a recent FF update a few days ago. I thought it was my internet connection screwing up again, but all was running quite zippy prior to the update.
When using IE7, I can quickly load pages to just about every site I frequent each day. But with FF now, even a simple page like google takes ages, or completely times out. When that repeatedly happens, I switch to IE7 and boom... it loads in a second or two.
This slowdown definitely has something to do with FF or some settings directly related to FF. Most frustrating, indeed. :(~ Sarah C.

"I hope someone figures this one out"
No doubt it is affecting a small group of people out of the millions upon millions that are using FF, googling will find them.
Example > firefox 2 slow > http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=...Mine is perfect, I just keep installing new versions over the old, no speed tweaks needed.

I use all these cleaners for W2K/XP, each one specialises in a different area, you will with use, get to know which ones suit your computer, in other words, they don't find any files.
Do not be supprised if hundreds or thousands of files are found.
Files are either removed to the programs backup or the Recycle Bin ( make sure the Recycle Bin is empty, before using the cleaners, that way you know the files you have removed )
All ( except DustBuster ) allow you to restore them back into the system, either by right clicking on the reg file in the programs folder ( OleClean > Windows Explorer > Unzipped, click on OleClean ) & clicking on Merge.
jv16 PowerTools, RegCleaner & RegSeeker both store in Backup on their main page.
Opening Backup allows you to either Restore or Delete, or go to where they are installed in Windows Explorer. Backup folder, right click on the reg file for the date you want to restore & click > Merge.EasyCleaner removes to the Recycle Bin, if needed again, open the Recycle Bin, right click on the files & select Restore.
Has an Update button. Checks you have the latest version & blacklist.CCleaner, one advantage of this cleaner is, when Registry is clicked & the boxes ticked, it will tell you before you fix ( doing one file at a time ) why the file is there.
Configure the Windows, Applications & Registry panels to suit.

Very quick, if you want to know what it cleaned, takes about 1 min to clean ( depends on the speed of your comp ) you have about 4 seconds to read the message displayed, when it is finished. Don't use whilst online.Eusing
My choice after 1st time use, is not to tick > MRU & History lists.Backups
Once you are sure they are not needed again ( about one week ) they can be deleted.
