Hey guys,
I switched to Firefox literally as soon as i could get my grubby little paws on it, but now I'm having some problems.
Even with my gig of RAM, the amount of space Firefox takes up is astounding. 50 megs is common, most days it goes up past 100 megs, it's been at high as 146 megs.
Do I have too many/the wrong extensions? Is there something else i'm doing wrong?
Thanks for the help.
Ed

I think some of your extentions are chewing up your resouces..

I only have ForcastFox installed and it run at 30meg..

At home I run Forcastfox and Gmail notifier and it run about 35 meg..

How many and what type of extentions are you running?

Junk Internet Explorer,
Get Firefox! You'll be happy you did.

I've been known to install extensions wily nilly from the top-rated extensions list. I have around 30 if i had to estimate.
Is this my problem?

I would assume so.. Save your extentions.. Uninstall them all and see if the usage goes down.

I know it's a lot of work. But The more you add, them more memory it will use. Just like IE. the more controls, toolbars and buttons you put on the more memory it will use.

Junk Internet Explorer,
Get Firefox! You'll be happy you did.

Shakes head in amazement!

Is it little wonder that people get computers full of viruses, spy-ware and Trojans when there are people around that will download anything if its free.

Also possible with some extentions, they are buggy, dont work completely. or not for your version of FireFox.

All that talk about extensions being the root cause of the problems is far fetched, I personally have 38 (yes thirty-eight) firefox extensions and may get more if I feel a need for anymore, bottomline resource taken is about 50MB, but no worries here even with less ram (768MB).

Guess what IE sans extensions hoards 52MB, I use the Stipe optimized version of firefox and keep sh*t clean within the OS, I'd suggest you take a closer look at other background issues within your OS.

List of Lists.

I'm inclined to agree with sabertooth. Have tried several FF extensions and never gone above 45MB.

I know this was an issue on the Firefox boards for a long time. A lot of people had this issue but I thought they were going to work on the problem. I've never had FF go over about 45 but I've heard people complain of over 100 megs. Do you have the latest version of FF? How many tabs do you have open at once? I don't think they know what exactly is making it do this for some people. But if you don't have the latest version I would update it to see if that helps. Do a clean install deleting your profile along the way. Remember to export or save your bookmarks.
Right now mine is at 22 megs.

It depends alot on what extensions you have installed. I have 30 installed and a hefty size theme to go with them. Mine averages around 26 megs always. Back now to the extensions installed, there is one extension I like called Flagfox, if I install it, it will jump up to 50 plus megs so extensions installed can play a role in how much mem is used.

My understanding is that Firefox will use whatever resources are needed but will release memorary if other applications require it. Makes sense. However, I have never hit over 48,000K and I run 38 extensions, 12 plugins and 2 themes. Also minimizing windows not in use releases memorary. Firefox 1.0.4 works great on my XP pro, Sp2. I use an AMD Athalon 2800+ 2.81 GHz 1.25gigs of ram.
