For the past couple of weeks, Firefox has started intermittently jamming on start-up. In that time I've upgrated from 1.0.4 to 1.0.6 but the problem hasn't eased.
The programme appears to open as usual, but no page loads, and my home page address doesn't appear in the address bar.
Something odd is that "updates" icon - it looks like a green circle with an upward pointing white arrow inside it - appears to the immediate right of "Help" in the menu bar. Usually when this icon appears, it appears on the extreme right-hand side of the screen, under the [X] from the window.
Sorry I know this is seemingly vague, and the problem tends to self rectify if I simply restart Firefox, but it is annoying since it happens a few times a day so if anyone can offer a solution I'd much appreciate it!

Try uninstalling Firefox, delete your profile folder, then install Firefox again. Your profile folder on XP is
C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Mozilla
You will want to save your bookmarks before you do this. You can export them to a html file with the bookmarks manager. Just go to "Bookmarks", "Manage Bookmarks", "File" then "export"Then when you are done reinstalling Firefox import your bookmarks back the same way. This usually clears up any problems that continue even after you uninstall and reinstall Firefox. You will have to reinstall your extensions if you have some installed.
