after some time i have just re-installed firefox browser, lastest version....
i have it set up for clearing cache, cookies etc at the end of day...however, each time i turn the pc on and start the firefox browser and go to the address bar, i see yesterday's and day before history still there....why is it not clear, like in the ie browser?......tia

These two might be of interest:
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/config...
and from http://kb.mozillazine.org/Disabling...
Changing autocomplete behavior using about:config
To prevent entries from History or bookmarked items from appearing but show those that you have specifically typed into the Location Bar (url bar), use about:config to toggle browser.urlbar.matchonlytyped to true. To completely disable the Location Bar autocomplete function in Firefox 3, modify the preference browser.urlbar.maxRichResults to 0 (zero).
Hope this helps.

Manually clean via the Tools>"Clear recent history" in FF3.5 or via clear privacy data in Privacy Tab in versions below 3.5.

i have done that each time the browser is closed, yet i still have all the history in the address bar.

Not trying to insult your intelligence but are you sure you have checked the history box to clean?

about:config is something you type into the address bar to access the more technical Firefox settings.
Your problem appears to be a bug in Firefox 3, where the address bar is untouched by any Privacy settings.
You can permanently delete individual entries by using Alt + Delete keys.
You can prevent the dropdown list appearing altogether by typing about:config in the address line then scrolling down to "browser.urlbar.MaxRichResults", clicking on it and setting it to -1.
This is better than using 0 which leaves an annoying line underneath. Note that this procedure only hides them from view, reversing the process restores them.EDIT. Apart from my point about using -1 rather than 0, this website says all the rest:-

some other bloke...

I think the links you're talking about might already be in your bookmarks (aka Favorites). If a link is bookmarked, it will always be available in the address bar for quick access (I think the idea is that you can sometimes forget you bookmarked it, and then if you start typing the site name it will remind you you already have it saved).
Hope this helps
=======================someone answered it with the above response on another thread and it is exactly that......thanks to all who have tried to help me!
