Earlier today I decided to upgrade my Firefox V 1.5.0.9 to V 2.0.0.1. After downloading the program wouldn't open, only a brief flash of a small black screen. I tried to delete what had been downloaded but got "Cannot delete, 2.0.0.1is being used by another person or program." Not so, no other person and no other program running. Also received a message "a temp file or initialization could not be created or written"
Decded to use System Restore. Tried that and got a message, "Your computer cannot be restored to date requested" Tried another date and got same message.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Is the sysem restore problem related to the Firefox V2.0.0.1 problem?
Firefox V1.5.0.9 works fine and all other computer operations are all right. I can live with Firefox program but notthe System Restore problem

uninstall Firefox from Add/Remove Programs and try again.
read this about system restore:

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

Before you install your FF back you should probably delete your profile folder. C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\. You will want to back up your bookmarks before you do this though. You can do this through the bookmarks manager > file > export or find the bookmarks.html file in your profile folder and copy it to another location.
This is called a clean install. Anytime I've ever had a problem or other people I have known have problems with Firefox this fixes it.

When I try to use System Restore in XP, I click a date, but it tells me I cannot restore. How do I fix this?
So, you're trying to use the XP System Restore feature, but get the message: "Cannot restore the computer to an earlier restore point, no changes have been made to your computer." Am I right? Well, I can't tell you how to get your old restore points back, but I can tell you how to fix this problem so you can use them in the future.
Right click on the My Computer icon, choose Properties, then click on the System Restore tab.
Put a check in the box for "Disable Restore on all drives." Click OK and reboot your computer. After you reboot, go back to the System Restore tab and uncheck the box. Click OK.
Next, go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools and then click System Restore. Choose Create a Restore Point and give it a name like Reset as a reminder.
Now, go ahead and try to use the restore again, using the new point and it should work properly for you this time

Thanks to all who provided advice. I have not had a chance today, yet, to do any of the above suggestions but when I do i'll let you know the results.
Thanks again

Further to mattie suggested site, recently during installing a printer got XP Control Panel screwed up and could'nt get System restore. Shut down, rebooted into Safe Mode (press F8 every second ), opened System Restore, this had the standard XP of System Restore for all the previous 30 days. Chose a day prior to the stuff up and System Restore run no problem.

Usisin the method described by tomtt I was able to restore System Restore to normal operation.
Thanks tomttMy pet's name was Slicker
