I downloaded Firefox 1.0 just to see how it works. It's a dog for. Websites that take only a couple of seconds to build under IE or Netscape, take 4-5 minutes with Firefox. CPU shoots up to 80-90%. WHy would anyone like this product or is there something I did not properly set?

I'll let the Firefox lovers answer this one for you as they are plenty of them here who think it is the best thing since sliced bread.

And here comes one of em :-) No, it is NOT the best thing since sliced bread (PBJ sandwiches possibly). The truth is, some applications (including browsers), just work better sometimes on one machine and not another.

It sounds silly as heck, but it happens. It also has to do with the memory in your system, or, lack thereof, what all is running in the background, viruses, and a whole slew of things.

Mozilla's orginal browser worked slow and felt heavy to me when I last used it. IE, well hell, I won't go into that, and Firefox just seems to do its thing without any trouble. That does not mean it is perfect though, as it has crashed, stalled, and done all sorts of other cute tricks.

But, overall, it has worked just fine. Let it stay around for a couple of years, we may find we fooled ourselves as far as security and overall capability goes, then again, we may not. Firefox is the new kid on the block, it will take a lot longer than it has been around to really know what it is and what it isn't.

Thanks, Kevin. Strawberry jelly just isn't me, but grape sure is :-) I didn't want to totally dog IE, afterall, it's a fine lil browser once I strap on its little suit of armor and give it a shield, lol.

You actually waited 4 or 5 minites to open a webpage? WOW!!!
Something wrong with this picture. I've never had to wait over 10 seconds on any webpage. I've also had installed it on 6 different machines and haven't had it crash since it was called Pheonix.
I would suggest to uninstall it and delete your profile folder(C:\Documents and Settings\User name\Application Data\Mozilla). Then reinstall it. There are no settings that you could do wrong that would make it that slow.

Well, my thinking is that there is an internet connection problem, or, it can depend on where he's surfing. I might be able to get this page to load in a hurry, but some other website on some other server may take a long time.

DOesn't matter what Website I'm going to, the wait is the same. Must be the huge CPU utilization. I can see the traffic come in OK, but actually building the page is what takes long. CPU jumps to between 80-90%, but mistly hoovers close to 90% with peaks at 95%.

I use Firefox on 3 different machines and really notice very little difference. Those machines are:
AMD K7 1000 w/ 1 gig RAM - Win XP Pro
Pentium III 600 w/ 768 meg RAM - Win 98 se
Pentium II 350 w/ 256 meg RAM - Win XP Pro

I think you have a different problem unrelated to Firefox. The Tab function and the download manager really make a difference to us here.

Cheers
