I recently went to broadband. The IT guy who installed the Linkys router and modem said that I really do not need the windows firewall installed because the software in the router and modem will protect me enough...is this true?
I looked at the firewall setup in Windows and it seems a bit complicated to set-up.

There's an easy way to test. Do a quick google search for "Sheilds Up". Follow the link to the Shields Up website and run the firewall test. It will test your connection and probe for open ports. If it reports back to you that all are closed then you're good to go.

As a rule of thumb, the firewalls built into most routers work reasonably well. I have a D-Link router at home and the firewall on it is enabled and I subsequently disabled the one in windows.

So do I. I suggest you read & print out this article for the IT guy to justify his reasoning (I would fire him if he was working for me)
