Finding the Win XP key in Registry

I am wondering where in the registry I will find the CD product key for Windows XP

I don't think you can, b/c if you could, what's to stop you from changing it so that you can activate the same cd on more than one computer. (it seems like I've tried to find it myself once b/c I installed a brand new cd onto a computer and it told me that key had already been used once and could not be used again.)
