I bought my legal copy of XP, and registered on line. It didn't tell me my confirmation code and now I want to format and reinstall and I can't find the reg code, not the CD Key, the other one.
Does anyone know how to look in the registry and find it?

If you have to re-active the OS via calling Microsoft they will just give you a new one. It's that simple and painless. There is a good chance it will activate via the internet. I know you can find the PID that you already have but I don't know of anyway of finding out the conformation key that they give you.

If you have a legal copy, call Micro$oft and get the code. However....I’ve heard a rumor that you can only use the same VALID key that you purchased with your own hard earned money up to 20 times and after that the key won’t work? Anyone else here this or is someone blowing smoke up my butt?

The problem is they won't give me that info because they think it's a different computer i'm installing it on...I spent an hour on the phone last night and they said I can't get that info...

From a previous Computing.net post:
>Before you reformat copy c:\windows\system32\wpa.dbl to a floppy (its about 12k) After you reinstall copy it back and you are activated again (if you don't change your hardware) If you make a hardware change you'll need to re-activate either by net or phone.
I can't find the source of my original notes, but it is echoed in this post.
Post back with results.
