I recently downloaded a program from a website without knowing the file name or application. I now need to remove the file but have no idea how to find it. Any suggestions?

Some idea of what type of file it is, what it was supposed to do, where it came from would help.
Other than that all you can do is search through possible folders like \Windows\Downloaded Program folder and look for any files with the same date and time as when it was downloaded.
In the meantime I would get your security settings sorted. With Windows XP and SP2 there is no reason why anything should get onto your computer without you knowing about it.

If it was a program that installed itself you can check in the control panels add/remove and look for something that does not look familiar. the same thing goes for all programs in the start menu. If you remember the web site go back to it and click to download it but only go to the point where you find out where it is being downloaded to and what the name of IT is.

If you just downloaded it and didn't run it or install it, it shouldn't be causing any problems.
You could try doing a search for files with the date you downloaded it.

Download another file from somewhere. It should open up to the same location assuming you haven't saved anything to a different location since. You should be able to tell from the save dialog box where the downloads are going, but if you can't, just remember the name of the new download and then search for it. You should find the other one in the same folder.
