Why isn't Microsoft offering the Java Virtual Machine download anymore? It refers to Windows Update but when I get there it gives the message: "We're sorry. Automatic installation of Microsoft Virtual Machine is no longer provided for Microsoft Windows XP."

I'm downloading Sun's Java instead. What's all this about?

Thanks,
Marcus

Microsoft has had a long-running feud with Sun Microsystems, the company that created the Java language. Sun sued Microsoft, accusing the bigger company of making changes to the Java language. Here is the settlement:

Just do a search using Google or Yahoo for the file "msjavx86.exe". There are many downloads available.

Thanks for all replies, I knew about the battle between MS and Sun, however I didn't know if it had to do with this particular event, will we ever know? According to JP everything should be back to normal now regarding MS JVM, I'll check it out but I'm sticking with Sun's JVM. Stranger things has happened :-)

Thanks everybody,
/Marcus
