First step is to go to Device Manager and see if the drive is shown there, or if there are any error marks (yellow or red). If there are errors showing, uninstall the drive from there, reboot and see if this helps.
Other possibilities are that the drive has been disabled in BIOS, or that a plug has come loose (at the drive or the other end of the cable). The CD drive itself might have failed.
