I'm trying to install the old Final Fantasy VII game. Windows XP will not install. I have the patch for it but I can't use the patch until the game is installed. Can anyone help?

What operating system was this game originally designed for? Also, this should probably go in the new Gaming forum.

It was designed for Windows 95, but they have a patch to make it work for XP...trouble is I have to install it first for the patch to work.

Well, exactly what type of error message are you getting, at what point in the installation do you get this error, etc. ?
It's inherently difficult to get a Windows 95 game to run right in XP, but it can be done.

No error message. I click install and nothing happens. I also tried to change the properties to run as a Windows 95 program and still it wouldn't work.
In another forum someone is suggesting that it just can't be done because the video card I have is incompatable. I have a GeForce4 MX 440 card, but I believe this is a different problem as I have seen this addressed on the internet. Maybe I need to take another look at this, perhaps this is the key to why it won't install.

So, you double click the install icon and nothing happens at all?! LOL. That sounds a little strange. There is no DOS box popping open for a split second and then disappearing or anything? Does your mouse cursor change to an hour glass? Everyone always 'suggests' that it cant be done, but they never really try either. Just about anything can be done if you put enough thought and effort into it. I really don't think your video card is the problem. I mean, that game is not exactly graphically demanding. Try running the install.exe file from a full screen command prompt and see if it gives you any error message there. The program might be checking for which version of Windows you have and if it reports the wrong version then it aborts the install.
