files being eaten up

Can you tell me how to stop my files being eaten up. Every so often I come across old files which now contain no data.The files name still exists but there's nothing inside.
How can I stop this hapening ? I have adaware and spybot which I run often

arturo, SWAG, off the top of my head, first reaction is that you have some sort of nasty at work. Scan to see if that's the case. If you still have the problem then dunno. HTH. Ed in Texas.
