How do I display japanese filenames in english version of XP? With WIN98 I used to have a separate program installed to display the japanese filenames correctly. Now in XP even with the extra software installed, the filenames still show up as gibberish. The only way japanese filenames can be displayed properly in windows explorer is if i use the IME method, but this is not effective if other programs can't access those files since it only sees question marks as the filenames. Please help! I have set my computer to use east asian languages, and I can use the IME to type, but it still won't display the file i download with japanese filenames correctly. I know I can just rename them in english but I would like to keep the original japanese names. Any help would be appreciated.

You need to have the Windows XP Multilingual Version. Go HERE for related issue.

Thanks for the reply XpUser but is there an alternative to using the Multilingual Version? I just need xp to properly display the japanese filenames which are double-byte, i don't actually need my whole system to be localized in japanese. I thought with xp's language support it should be able to do this on its own. But if it requires any helper programs to display those fonts i'm open for suggestions.

It's kinda out of my league. I'm not even sure if you could get what you are hoping to achieve without the use of third party software.
