file wont delete

i have a 555mb file (.avi) that i can't delete. whenever i try deleting it it says its being used by another program (but it isn't. please someone tell me how to fix this (i want my 555mbs back!!)

Check to see if it is running at startup ; Start>run>msconfig>startup, see if it is the list.
Or ctrl+alt+delete, then see if it running in any of the windows.

hello....try to go into safe mode and delete it...you can delete everything in safe mode......restart your computer and press F8 and you will go into safe mode...bye

You could also check the Maximum size of the recycle bin, right click on the desktop icon and it will give you the info for the maximum size just increase the size to 50% and then try to delete the file . Hope this helps Cheers Alan

Point at the avi file until the preview is displayed and then try to delete it. Since it is such a large file it can take xp a second to get done using the file itself for building the preview. This has happened to me before and this usally does the trick.
If the above responses didnt help for some reason, you could use a win98 bootdisk and delete it from dos. Unless your drive is ntfs.
