Hey guys,
I recently installed the O&O Defrag Pro 8.6 software and before "analysing" the disk, I decided to have it check for disk errors first (using ChkDsk). The report came out and on the status line it said "Error: File system is damaged." What does this mean ? How can I fix this ? I haven't encountered an error so far that disrupts my operation of my laptop. At least that's what I can remember.

Thanks

I'm not familiar with O&O Software - a Berlin Germany-based entity. Have you check out the knowledgebases at their support page at the link below?

U're welcome. BTW did you purchase the program or did you download just the trialware? If the latter - it's a trap designed to force you to buy the software to fix something that ain't broken.

No, I actually bought it. I've tested it out first and so far it hasn't disappointed me. I've had PerfectDisk before this one and the offline defragmentation feature couldn't function properly so I decided to try another software.

In other words your laptop is working the way you expect it, correct?

What exactly couldn't function properly?

Yes, for the majority of the time, it's working fine. As for the Perfectdisk case, everytime I set PerfectDisk to schedule a offline defragmentation and reboot after that, an error is shown during the actual offline defragmentation screen. The actual defrag process can't proceed because of that error. If I remember correctly, it had something to do with driver conflict.
Actually, while typing, I found a link for a solution to that problem.

I'll see if that works.

I hope that's all it takes to correct the problem.

Unfortunately the offline defragmentation in PerfectDisk's case isn't working but that's not the problem I am concentrating on. I am concentrating on the fact why my drive's volume status says "Damaged File System". I just want to know what that means and how to fix it.

Run CHKDSK /R from the recovery console.
