Comment:

i previously owned an emachine computer. the board blew out so i had to build a new comp then found that the emachine drive with winxp would not boot without emachine hardware.

the files that are needed to recover are in the my documents folder which is protected with an admin pw set by emachines which they will not disclose. to recover the files me and a friend are trying to copy the files to a fat32 drive and then to the current drive, but the files will only save to an 8bit file name and change to a .dat format making them inaccesible.

any suggestions on how to get these files back?

If you can boot from cd, you could try this http://lifehacker.com/software/pass...

You might be able to find out the password.

Before posting try google. Backup. Use anti virus software.
