File not displayed in add/remove list

Specs: Windows XP
I need to uninstall a file that is working fine but it does not appear in the add/remove list. What is the safest way to remove the file.

greeness, What's the name of the file or program. Have you checked Start>Programs> the name of the program and see if it has an Uninstall option or the programs folder to see if there's an uinstall.exe or an unwise.exe? Need more info.

This was a large program written by a programmer who no longer works for us and who we cannot contact. The program was installed using the MS installer and I have not been able to find any type of uninstall program. This same program is running on several other identical computers and I the program is displayed on the add/remove list.

If you still have a copy of the original program re-install it then see if it appears in Add/Remove. If so, try uninstalling it again.

Otherwise it's a case of deleting files and registry entries which can be dangerous unless you take great care.
