Direct CD is a packet reader that was bundled with Roxio burner software. It isn't compatible with WinXP. Go to Control panel> add/ remove programs and uninstall direct CD. You may also need to remove the burner software as I stated there seem to be issues with it working with WinXP. Removing direct CD may solve the issues. Worth attempting because you will retain the burner software that way. If you don't see a separate listing in add/ remove programs then click on the burner software listing and you should get a menu with choices. Choose Modify and then untick direct CD. You may want to remove the player program that may also be present.
