I got the error message at startup:
Windows could not start because the following file is
missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMI also recently got a error before this:
Searching IDE Drives... .... .... No drive attatched to
FastTrack Controller. BIOs is not installed.I fear this may be a big problem?
I also, cannot boot up from cd-roms, nothing happens, it
will always display that corrupt message.I also have no other PC apart from that one, I'm using a
iBook at the moment. Currently thinking on getting a
AlienWare System. Daul 4800+.if anyone can solve this, then you rock!

Could be your harddrive or the IDE cable it's connected to is faulty. As to booting to the CD, you need to enter bios and make sure CDROM is selected as first boot device. Once you get it to boot to the xp cd you can run SFC Scannow command in recovery console. I do not have the syntax correct there but I'm sure someone will be able to provide it. this command is designed to check and replace missing or corrupt system files. It will not help you if the harddrive itself is going bad. There are other commands such as chkdisk that you can run from recoveryconsole to test drive. There are diagnostic tools also available from harddrive manufacturers but you need a working PC with floppy drive to download and create a suitable bootdisk.
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

Someone told me to do the CHKDSK and it found and
repaired a few things. However when I restarted the computer the same error
popped up.Will try your solution now. :)

I ran CHKDSK once again to try my luck, last time it had
repaired one or more files. This time:CHKDSK is checking the volume...
CHKDSK is performing additional checking or recovery...
CHKDSK is performing additional checking or recovery...
CHKDSK is performing additional checking or recovery...
CHKDSK has finished checking the volume. That's it, didn't find any errors.
Commands I used were:
CHKDSK
CHKDSK /R

Here's an excellent tutorial on SFC:
