Most likely you need the exe fix in the link given above.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Right-click a file of the file type you're looking to adjust, go to Open With > Choose Program, select the desired program from one of the two lists or Browse for it, check-box: "Always use selected program for this kind of file".

Apologies if I don't respond to your reply immediately. I don't check this site daily, but you're welcome to PM me as a reminder.

Sure, that's general information but I deduce from what the poster said that it is happening on many programs. This points to exe file problems, in which case the "Open With" option will not even be available.

I think the exe fix given in the link at post #1 is the best way to go for starters. If there are still specific programs that won't open then fine, your response is the next thing to try.

I like to give options and avoid jumping to conclusions.

If by any chance you arrived at this point as a result of an infection. exeHelper may be of help:

That is exactly what the exe fix does, without having to go into the registry. It is a reg file.

If you read my #5 I was not knocking your option but simply suggesting that that the exe fix would be the best "first" option. It is not a matter of jumping to conclusions but more to do with trying to best diagnose the issue with the limited amount of information given by the poster, who said programs (plural).

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

@ Derek: Like I said, I like to give alternative options. With the information given only by the OP, I believe my post was beneficial which is why I made it. Read my post about not jumping to conclusions without jumping to conclusions. Take it for exactly what was said, no hidden messages.

Now back to the support query...

OK, accepted that your #5 was just an interesting statement, in which case I've no idea why you posted it.

Further....

Apologies if I have unwittingly upset the apple cart somehow. I trust that from now on we can work together in harmony, if and when the situation arises.
