You need a regular phone line to use the fax. A dsl line will not work.

Absolutely right - you CAN put a fax modem into your machine ( and keep your ADSL modem, too) and send a fax through it OR use an internet fax service (Google for "internet fax service") but it is likely to cost!! Alternatively, you can email????

Is this an analogue modem and is it configured and working correctly - an ADSL modem will not work.

Both an analog modem and DSL modem connect to the phone line via RJ11 and both can be in use at the same time - but not for fax

If you do not have an analogue modem you cannot send and receive faxes other than via an on-line fax service.

If you truely do have an analog modem connected to the phone line, you do have the DSL digital noise filter in line don't you?

all i know is i have a normal modem which can act like a fax modem as well. and its connecting to microfilter that has adsl and phone connected to it and goes direct into phone socket.

another thing do i need to enter 9 before sending fax.

You would only need to dail "9", or any other prefix, if that was required to get an outside line from your address to make phone calls.

If the FAX is receiving OK, then it is obviously not dialling out the correct number from your PC..........
