FAX problems in XP

I am having problems recieving Fax in XP. I can hear it dialing and connecting then I hear please try later and it comes up error occurred whilt receiving fax. I have used fax on other PC's and never had a problem my modem is compatible to XP. Microsoft say its a hardware conflict or phone line. Any ideas....

What software are you useing to send a fax? You are aware that you have to be off line to send a fax it your fax system should dial the number your sending the fax to it's the same to have a fax delivered you have to be off line.
