My favorites in MS Internet Explorer(ver:6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2.gdr.050301-1519) suddenly disappeard. I can no longer add any or access them from the favorites menu inside IE. They are still in my actual favorites folder in C:\Documents and Settings\Jessica\Favorites. Recently I ran MS antispyware, spybot search and destroy, and adaware...plus I have McAfee Security Center Running. It seems to have coincided with installing and running MS antispy and spybot for the first time, but MS antispy did not detect any problems. Spybot quarantined the following: coolwwwsearch, windows security center firewalldisablenotify, dso exploit, Wild Tangent, Windows security center.antivirusdisablenotify. I can give details of what was removed if necessary. Thank you to anyone who can help! I'm in the middle of a semester and I need access to my links!

Had the same problem and found the following fix this evening: It requires editing the registry so follow the instructions carefully. Start -> Run and enter regedit Next, browse through the registry to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\ Double click on Favorites in the right pane and update the data field with the path to your favorites folder. Next, you'll also need to update: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\ Double click on Favorites in the right pane and update the data field. Typically this will be: %userprofile%\Favorites Worked for me!
