Comment:

I recently set up internet connection sharing on my home network. (both machines are WXP). Every since I did this I am getting the message "Faulting application svchost.exe. version 5.1.2600.0. faulting module unknown. version 0.0.0.0. fault address 0x00000000. I found this by looking at my services messages. It is then followed by another error "The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal processing. HRESULT was 800706BA from line 44 of d:\nt\com\com1x\src\events\tier1\eventsystemobj.cpp." Any ideas on what might be causing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thx,
Mike

Does it go away if you disable Internet Connection Sharing? If so, double-check your configuration settings. Also, maybe look through your Event Viewer, and if it's still listed, start a new post and include the Event ID code....

Mike: some ideas for the svchost.exe error;

1. check that your firewall is not blocking your ISP.

2. check for a network scheduler that couldn't find the host/username/password.

3. check your startup list (Run: msconfig) and ensure that there is not a double up program checked.

4. reduce the startup load on your CPU by disabling the following services relying on svchost.exe;

Computer Browser
Remote Registry Service
Routing and Remote Access
Server
SSDP Discovery Service
Upload Manager
Wireless Zero Configuration

you can disable a service by clicking Start, Run, type: services.msc
right-click the selected service and click Properties,
on the General tab, select Disabled in the Startup type box drop-down list;

5. if problem persists, see if a system restore helps;
click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore,
and select a date.
