Comment:

have a Dell Laptop 8400 that's about 5 yrs old. It was working fine on Monday but when I turned it back on Monday evening, I get the following error:

Stop: c000021A {fatal system error} The windows logon process system process terminiated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005(0x00000000 0x00000000) The system has been shut down.
I googled the error and some comments were to press F8 and choose Last know good configuration. It came back to the same error. I tried booting into safe mode; still it came back. I even tried putting the windows cd in and booting from the cd. and yet it still came back to the same error. What should I do?

to the looks of it you have a bad Os operating system. So see if reinstalling the OS can do something. But before that you might really need some file on it so bringing it to a Technician might help to retrieve important files.

But there is also called System repair to repair the Os and not erase any files. So you might want to try it out as well.
