I'm in process of installing WinXP Pro, but I have one problem. I got this Fatal Error: 'An error has been encountered that prevents setup from continuing. One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. Incorrect function.' What should I do, cause I had this trial earlyer and it worked well?

Well.. doesnt seem like the hard disk seems odd to XP .. because sometimes the Hard disk formatting might be incompatible and XP stalls. but in your case the error seems to point towards an error in the installation files itself.. ihave a strong hunch that unfortunately the install is corrupt.. if u are using the same CD or setup archive then maybe its sorrupt.. if its a duplicate of the original disk which u used earlier then it may not be written/copied correctly.
beyond this .. all i can say is good luck

I had the same error this morning... The error does not specify what component did not install correctly. Any ideas?

I have heard that this is error is caused by slaves on IDE bus. I know this sounds wierd, but if you disconnect your slave drives, reformat, re-install XP it should work, then you can go and re-connect your slave drives and format them.
Wierd MS bug.
