Comment:

A Vista program was installed on my system with Windopws XP Media as the operating system. Now when I start my computer, I get a blue screen that states Logon Fatal Error c000021a. I was able to start my system once in safe mode, but then got the same error message after that. When I was able to get on that one time in safe mode I ran Pest patrol and was able to remove 21 various pests that included 6 Trojans but i still got the error message afer restarting.

If anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate any advice.

Thank you.

6 Trojans !!!

I do not know, what you think about it, but I would never trust a once infected system.

In such case I use my fresh backup and simply restore it.

If there is no backup, I recommand to make a fresh installation.

In addition to the above I would question your wisdom in installing something not designed to run on XP. If the installed program in fact installed the trojans obviously this wasn't a legitimate Vista program.

first of all, I didn't install anything. This is my friend's computer and his wife installed it. So why don't we stop with the "I am smarter than you" comments and DO NOT question my wisdom, as i would not have done something like that in the first place!!

Oh dear, hit a raw nerve there. Personally I would question anyones wisdom when they have a computer with six Trojans on it.

>> A Vista program was installed on my system ... <<

First it was your system now it a friends system and you are blaming his wife.

If you had the wisdom you claim to have you would know what do do about it without asking questions and giving misleading information.

If it was a suspect screensaver, no wonder the OP has
21 various pests that included 6 Trojans... 8)

That is WHY I thought that. The OP hasn't indicated what the program was.

To StuartS,

Paul is right, this site is for helping others, not insulting them. After all, not all of us can be super nerds with pocket protectors, no women in their lives and afraid to go outside because they are afraid they will miss the new episode of "Dr. Who".

So why do you insult people by virtually demanding that people DO NOT question your wisdom as if you were the super nerd who wisdom is beyond reproach.

Grow up and start behaving like and adult.

BTW: I have not watched Dr Who since William Hartnell left it.

You can try to restore the registry hives and that should at least get you back to safe mode. You will need to know the computer adminstrator password and have the Windows XP CD to boot into recovery mode. However, you could still have a boot sector infection and should scan with a virus program that can scan boot sectors. Once in safe mode, turn off system restore and scan everything on the hard drive for viruses. Maybe someone can recommend one to do boot sector?

If you plan not to make a fresh installation,
use an antivirus scanner that not only scans the boot sector but also scans for rootkits !!!

There is a free antivirus software that supports both.
Avira Antivir PersonalEdition Classic
http://www.free-av.com/

Much better than most commercial antivirus software.
I'm using it by myself since one year and it's better than the McAfee or the Norton Antivirus (!!! only my opinion !!!)
