Hey everyone....I am getting rid of this computer and i have 2 HDs .....one is 40 gigs and one is 80...im keeping the 80 gig and was wondering how I could change the HD from FAT32 to NTFS without losing the information on it...i have a lot of stuff on that HD that i wanna keep so I was wonderin how to convert the format frum FAT32 to NTFS.....n e help is greatly appreciated..thanks in advance

Maybe this:
How to Use Convert.exe to Convert a Partition to the NTFS File System

My suggestion would be to get a USB to Usb data transfer patch cable. They run about 35 to 50 dollars and well worth the money. Just follow the instructions and transfer the data to a folder on another machine. Then format the 80 gig in NTFS and transfer it back. It's a lot safer than some software that you hope doesn't screw up and smash your data. I use it for transfering my files to and from my laptop. 2 years and not one problem. Well worth the bucks...

1) Go with Response 1.
or
2) Use a $3 crossover cable between the two computers' ethernet cards. If you don't have an ethernet card installed in each computer, some of the cheaper no-name brands are going for about $3 these days. At most, you're out about $15 after tax or shipping. Spending 3-4x's that to accomplish the same task using USB is completely senseless, IMO.

And if you do opt to use a simple cross-over network arrangement to go between the two PCs, then visit Jo Helmig at:

and go thru it all with JH.A simple cross-over network connection (using a NIC in each PC and a crosss-over cable between them) would be miles ahead of any USB approach...
But the standard convert.exe routine in post #1 should be all that's needed. If concerned about data-security... back-up first to somewhere safe - preferably off the system.
