Failure to load OS XP Install problem

I am trying to install XP pro on a new hard drive (new HD unformated when i got it). I booted off the CD and fomated the HD using NTFS file system. After XP had been installed on the HD, the computer reboots, instead of booting off the HD (what it is suppost to do acording to the instructions), it gives me the error: "Failure to load operating system." The Bios correctly identifys the HD, and no errors occur during the install process.
System Specs: Mobo: Ep-8k7a CPU: AMD 1.2 ghz Geforce 2 GTS Pinicale PCTV card Unkown Network card 2 CD-ROMs on the secondary IDE cable, with only the HD is on the primary IDE
What i want to know is if this is the fault of a defective HD or if the XP installation is corrupt somehow. Could this be a Bios problem (the Bios has not been upgraded since i bought the board).

This sounds like the boot records were not written when the drive was formatted. Isn't that an option during format?

try booting to your xp disk and going to the repair console.. why you get to the command prompt type in fixboot... when that is done type exit and restart.. that should take care of it!!
