Posted previously. On Boot No IDE Drive present. Tried several time to reboot. Same result. Replaced Hard Drive. Installled OS.
This is the SAD part! Posted 'problem as thought' HardDrive to Hitachi. Same day rebooted with new drive and result was 'No IDE Present'. For 21 days computer has run without any problem.Friend suggested IDE Controller may be the causing the 'intermittant problem'with the conclusion that ultimate solution is a NEW Motherboard as controller cannot be fixed. Any other suggestions as to the 'Problem' and its solution appreciated.

You may either accept your friend's advice or provide us at least as much information about your PC and its problem as you had shared with your friend to reach the conclusion that the problem is from a failing MoBo. With the same or additional data about the problem and the system some of us could figure out the problem and its solution which may be the same as your friend gave or different :-)
By the way, if you have posted previously more details than what you have posted here now, message number would've helped us locate it from the Forum Archives.

Try replacing the IDE cable first, as they can go bad. Just be sure to replace 40-pin cable with 40-pin cable, and 80-pin cable with 80-pin cable. It does make a difference, regardless that both will physically fit the drive and mbd controller.

Friend said 'could be IDE controller' no other input from him than that.
Will try new IDE cable is problem recurs.
(OK now for 22 days)
Thanks for your replies
