I have written a batch file to register the DLL files if the updates fail. Copy these to notepad and save as a txt file. After it is saved change the extension to BAT. Then just click on the bat file and it will register the dll files one at a time.Makes it simple.

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll

How about about adding

regsvr32 cdm.dll

It's part of WU and WU uses it to generate Windowsupdate.log file

Hi per - Howdy?

Just in case you're running Vista and you're not thrown into reduced function mode (RFM), you can create similar patch file for the following components (only some are similar to XP):

wuapi.dll
wuapp.exe
wuauclt.exe
wuaueng.dll
wucltux.dll
wudriver.dll
wups.dll
wups2.dll
wuwebv.dll

If you're in RFM Safe mode may be disabled too.

That's not it - you may need it when WGA servers gets screwed up again as it did late last month (August 2007).

At that time it suddenly told thousands of us that our Vista is not genuine.

I only plug in the Vista when I am bored with nothing else to do. I am a long way from using it as a primary system.
