Comment:

I am with Telewest broadband and the last few times that I have turned on my computer it has failed to make a connection. However, by clicking on the restart button the system reloads and a connection is made every time. Any clues why this might be? It's very frustrating having to restart the machine twice each time. Thanks.

Do you have an on/off button for your router?

If so, turn it on 1st & then boot up.

To me, it sounds like the router has not made it's connection & needs more time.

What sort of router do you have? I had a similar problem with my Netgear DG834G modem/router. I resolved it by hard coding the DNS setting rather than having them assigned automatically. I now have absolutely no issues.

Are you getting no IP or just name resolution issues?

Thanks for your replies. Sorry I haven't been back earlier but it's getting more and more frustrating.
My modem is a Motorola SB5100 and I do tend to power it up at the same time as the PC so perhaps it is a time thing.
I'm afraid I wouldn't know where to begin with 'hard coding the DNS setting', perhaps you could enlighten me. Thanks again.
