You or the previous owner should have made a set of recovery discs with the Toshiba Backup Media utility when the laptop was working okay (preferably when the laptop was first purchased new). There is no way to do a factory restore without that set of discs.

Toshiba will supply you with a set of their own recovery discs for a small charge if you didn't bother make your own and Windows won't run properly.

If you first want to try to make your own and Windows is working reasonably well, go to
Start >> All Programs >> Toshiba >> Toshiba Recovery Media Creator
That's where it is on my Toshiba laptop but mine is Windows 7 and only 3 years old.

If you don't have any such utility on yours, go here and order Backup Media (recovery discs):

But be aware it depends how old your model is. They don't have recovery discs for models made before a certain year (2007 I think).

If yours is too old, you'll have to search around for a cheap copy of XP, install it, then get the laptop drivers from Toshiba's website. They keep drivers even for very old models.

Option b; if it has a built in recovery partition here is how to access it. turn off the computer. Hold the zero key "0" down, keeping "0" depressed, turn on the unit, keep 0 held down for a few seconds and if it has a recovery menu, that will bring it up.
