Comment:

A week ago, the F5 key suddenly started opening a Search window. This is a nuisance because I use F5 for another program,
which still works, but a new search window also opens each time it is pressed.

I have tried closing all programs down to a bare desktop, but that didn't help. I did a System restore back to a date before the problem started, but that didn't help either. I searched the registry using "hotkey" as a keyword, but didn't find anything that looked relevant.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks, Colin

Edit: I misread your post, I did not see the search bit. The brain went into auto and registered F5 for refresh...

The following works if Search opens if you double click a drive or folder.

It may also work in your case ---

Click Start, then RUN, then type
regsvr32 /i shell32
Note the space between 2 and /, & i and s

Thanks for the suggestion Chuck, I ran the command, restarted Windows, but it made no difference.
