HI, Just finished doing an install of XP Pro on a 'barebones' computer. Everything went well, except after POST, I have to press F1 to 'continue' into Windows. Then, when I tried to shut down completely, the computer kept re-booting. Any ideas on how to rectify these situations??? Any help is greatly appreciated. THANKS!!!

There are a few things that can trigger that response.
The first is a Cmos set-up error of some type
Check to make sure the post is reading the hardware correctly....or that the boot sequence is correct.....or that the Cmos battery is good as this is mostly caused by a clock time error.Another issue would be a faulty keyboard..
and on some older preset bios computers you could try to toggle the F10 key and when in...press cntrl and A keys to open the advanced window and just look for the F1 note and disable it...(this was more to the older AT/ATX case computers.
and one last thing...If your case has a"case open" control...try disableing it in the bios.
let us know if any works for you!

Thanks, lurkswithin, for your input. The F1 problem has been solved! The POST WAS reading that I had a floppy drive installed, and I had chosen not to install one. After I corrected this, the computer boots up normally. The computer has a 'case open' warning which was already disabled, so that was not a problem, but...I tried to shut down with the case closed (previously I left the case open), and a warning came up for me not to hit the on / off button or unplug because the computer would shut off on it's own. It did not shut off. I can shut it down by pressing the on button. I DO aprreciate your help so far, and would welcome any more ideas on the shut down problem. Thanks again!!!
