I installed EZcd 5 in XP. followed the instruction in Roxio, I didn't install Take2. and afterward, I upgraded first the patch for XP and then to 5.02d. however, when I try to burn a cd, an error message occurs, says no supported Cd recorder available. I am using plextor 16/10/40A and I updated the firmware after the problem occred. It still didn't fix the problem.
I apprecite if anyone can help me out here.
Thanks

I have the same problem, but if I reboot it usually starts recognizing my burner again, but it has also happened with Nero too, so I'd have to believe the problem is somewhere in XP.I haven't figured it out yet, but try using the program right after a reboot and see if it works.

Subject: Fix for XP not detecting CD

Comment:
there has been alot of ppl having the problem with xp not recognising cd roms or dvd roms or floppy drives this is how to fix it if the error you get is code 39
Use regedit to remove the keys named UpperFilter and LowerFilter from:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Of course always make a back up of your registry first and scroll thru the class registry files till you find the exact hardware you are looking for this one is for cdrw so make sure you delete the right registry key any probs email me

I also have the same problem with my Plextor 16/10/40 and Windows XP.

Windows XP also does not recognise my writer. It only sees it as a CD ROM.

Nero and CDclone work ok though. Have you used your Plextor with any other version of Windows and Easy CD successfully?

hello Trevor,
I actually never have tried other software. (I used to have EZcd 4 and win98se. it works perfectly.)
however, i just discover that DirctCD actually WORKS with XP. I just tried it and it works well. Then I don't understand why EZCDcreator is not working while DiectCD works fine?

You'd have to uninstall Easy then reinstall it. Direct CD does about the same for me, that is it works sometimes, but can't find the burner at other times unless I reboot. Pretty frustrating. I hope Roxio is reading all these forums.

I have a PlexWriter 8/4/32A and have never had one single issue with it using EZCD Plat. and I am using the updates as Roxio advises. I hate packet writing so I don't use Direct CD and Take Two is worthless so it is not installed either. I have ripped MP3's into WAV files and then burnt them without problems. I have burnt many CD's without any issues at all. Have you tried updating your IDE drivers? As far as not using the patches, I think it's crazy but if it works it works. I would do as others have said, unistall and then reinstall the software. I have gotten the same error message you did with older versions of Roxio on brand new systems, a simple uninstall and reinstall of the software fixed the problem.

Laters,

KTTD

P.S I doubt Roxio is reading any of this.

If the folks at Roxio did read this, they would never admit it anyway.

There is a better alternative CD burning software other the EZ Creator 5, it's called Disk Juggler, I find it more realiable and it's a free download. I have EZ 5 and Disk Juggler both installed on my laptop, when EZ acts up or crashes, I use disk juggler (plus Disk Juggler has a built-in detector for scanning out incompatible MP3 when trying to make a music cd, unlike EZ Creator). Go to www.padus.com and try it out. It's really good

Thanks for the tip about ASPI. I read the article as well as the warning on Adaptec website. However, it's daunting to do it with no knowledge of it whatsoever. Is there anyone out there has resolve the problem by installing the ASPI? And didn't cause any system disaster? Please help.

I also have EZ-CD creator 5 Platnium on windows XP with the upgrade, it works ok, but when I try to make copys of songs off of more than one CD, it messes up.
I had three CD's that I was taking selected songs off of, and the selections were placed on the list on the right hand panel, using Easy CD creator "audio Cd", all was good until I went to record, it asked for CD # xx, when I gave it CD #xx, it kicked it out asking again for CD xx.
So I kept putting in each of the three CD's I had that I was copying from, I finaly gave up!, it just will not work using more than one CD at a time, what good is that?!.
I am about ready to put EZ-CD creator 4 back in, even though it keeps rebooting my computer, (I can always pull the plug like I did before), at least I can make a "selected best" CD!

Well I seem to have a different problem. I am using a HP CD-Writer plus 9100i (8x,4x,32x) and running WinXP-Pro. I was able to install and it recorded fine. The problem however was the recording speed. I couldn't select 1x reccording. I was able to select 2x,4x and 8x and all worked fine. I was told recording at 1X for music CD's makes it better quality. Does anyone know how to fix this problem or maybe a site to help me ? Please help !

This seems to be a problem directly related to the Plextor 16/10/40 somehow. I also found that Direct CD works. I also successfully use Nero 5.5 and Clone CD without any problems. However, Windows XP only sees my Plextor 16/10/40 as a CD ROM so I cannot use the XP CD burn support either.

I have previously tried the same setup with a HP CD writer without any problem.

I have sent a email to Plextor to see if they can give any hints. If I get a reply I will post here.

thanks, travor. i think the plextor 16/10/40 has the same problem as yours. however, there's a new firmware to download from plextor website. i upgraded it. it didn't help. maybe it works on yours. you can try it out.

Basically, i think this is still Roxio's problem. what i think is, the directCD works is because the windowxp's burning function works. (even though i didn't try to use the burning function in XP. but it's kind of logical to think this way.) i wish EZCD would be easier to install. i used to have lots of problem installing EZCD4 in Windows98SE too. you think they would make any progress on version 5? huh, don't think about it.

Just wondering............if we disabled the XP Burning software in System Events like someone mentioned doing with the Nero if that would work..........I too have a 16/10/40 Plextor, and have recently gave Platinum 5.0 another try. This time I burned 4 CD's and even did a slide show Photo CD and a web cd.......but haven't used it for a few days so was told it might go nuts again ........

Sly, If you have managed to burn CDs with EasyCD as you described then you dont have the problem that we do. I cant see why you want to disable XP burning software?

shinjan22, I am using the latest firmware (v1.04) on my writer. No reply from Plextor yet though.

MY SOLUTION. I had the same problems with EasyCD Creator5 and XP. I found that if you installed in the order of Update (lets say 5.02d) and THEN xpupdater it works fine. Original instructions suggested other way around, but saw it as above somewhere, tried it, and it works! Let me know how you go!

This is the response I got from Plextor when I sent them details of my problem.
Unfortunately it did not help as I have already tried all these things.
However, it may be helpful to anyone else out there with the problem.
I have replied to Plextor and asked for more help and still waiting for another reply.

Here was their advise:-
Dear sir ,

I suggest that you connect the plexwriter as a master to an ide channel . I also suggest that you install the latest busmaster drivers for your mainboard . These can be found at the website from the manufacturers from your mainboard or chipset . In the device manager the plexwriter is always being detected as a cd-rom device . Regarding the problem with the easy cd creator I suggest that you contact the manufacturers from this software . Because they have all information about their recording software .

Kind regards ,

Ureka!

I have got Easy CD Creator running fully now.

Follow instructions in this link:-
http://ask.roxio.com/cgi-bin/roxio_tic.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=hCmiEc8g&p_lva=&p_refno=011130-000007&p_created=1007168160&p_sp=cF9ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD0wMTExMzAtMDAwMDA3JnBfc2VhcmNoX3R5cGU9MTAwMSZwX3Byb2RfbHZsMT03JnBfcHJvZF9sdmwyPX5hbnl_JnBfY2F0X2x2bDE9fmFueX4mcF9zb3J0X2J5PWRmbHQmcF9wYWdlPTE*&p_li=

It worked for me.
I still cannot get a 'Recording' tab in my Writer properties in Win XP so cannot use inbuilt XP burning utilities. One step at a time though!
