Hi All,
A local printer prints extremely slow when printing from a particular program. It prints fine when printing from a word document. But it prints extremely slowly when printing from a particular timetabling program. It was printing fine from that program until a few days ago but now it takes minutes to start the job.
Any ideas on what may be the problem or fixes...
Thanks.
Aki,,,

What has changed prior to the problem? Don't say "nothing" as it was obviously something.

Uninstall and reinstall the software for the program.

You mentioned "particular program" three times (the third "that"0. How do you expect us to help you sort out this "particular" (or "that") program.

Thank you all for your replies. Well, the program name is "FirstClass", it is a time-tabling program. The only thing or two that I can think of are,
1- Attached printer was removed and then attached back to the computer.
2- Computer was not used for two weeks.

It's my friend's computer who is afraid to uninstall the software unless it is the last resort as he had problems installing the program in the first place. He wants a way around the problem.
Can someone please guide us on what are the probable causes of slow printing. I know high resolution files take longer to print which is not the case here. My search has not revealed much so far.
Thanks again.

It is a Parallel port printer. Printers memory was the same when it was working fine. I guess we might have to uninstall the program after all.
Thanks again for your replies.

Are you using IEEE 1284 Bi-directional parallel cable printer cable? If not, try it. It's faster than non IEEE 1284 cables. I know because my old MFC uses it. Printing jobs are always done quickly at my end.

Long shot:

Go to Printers in the control panel.
Right-click the printer, choose Properties.
On the Advanced tab, make sure "Spool print documents" is chosen rather than "print directly to the printer"
(There might be other settings that have an effect, but that is the main one in my experience.)

I'd try reinstalling the printer driver before considering a reinstall of that FirstClass program.

The reason I asked what type of connection, I canged mine from Parallel to usb and it sped the printer up as well as didn't use as many resources.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks
