Hi,

I´m not sure where to post this message. However, does anyone know how to extract an IMG-file that I´ve downloaded to my computer?

Thanks in advance!
Martin

Martin, IrfanView or XnVview will open that file extension.

Jboy,

It is most likely a disk image. With the IrfanView program I simply select Open -> File and then select the IMG - GEM raster files option. When I press enter I get the message "Can´t find file header"..."Unknown file format or no file found".

The file in question is the En_vs_2005_Pro_90_Trial.img that I have downoaded from Microsoft.

Thanks
Martin

When you downloaded, you might have missed reading the. From Microsoft:

" Additional Information
This Trial Edition has full retail functionality but will expire after 90 days. An ISO-9660 image file is an exact representation of the original installation media, including the content and the logical format. The most common use of an image file is to write it to a blank DVD-R resulting in an identical copy of the original DVD including file name and volume label information. ISO Images can also be extracted directly to a file location by many DVD-R utilities. "

Re-name the extension to ISO, it might ease things for you.

"It is most likely a disk image"

Well... one would think so, and I'm not sure why you would even have tried IrfanView/XNView, since you'd mentioned (in your other thread) it was a program, not a graphic. Context is everything, and knowing in advance what sort of file you'd downloaded is the key to deciding which sort of 'IMG' it is - - although reading the instructions from where you'd downloaded is a concept you shouldn't discount

As stated, WinImage usually can deal with that disk image format, as well as others, including burning and virtual drive software apps (& others mentioned in that link... )
