external monitor only works in safemode,

Specs: Windows XP
have ibm 32 thinkpad,with a rca hdtv/monitor, in safe mode it works g8,but no internet,how can i get this monitor to do just as laptop does,when not in safe mode i have a cursor on the monitor and can move it around ,but thats it

sounds like the monitor is set to extend desktop but sounds like you would rather clone. Go to display properties and check settings there. Right Click desktop->Properties->Settings

The external monitor's resolution is most likely not set correctly. If the resolution is to high, the system will not load it under normal logon... Safe mode or VGA will lower the resolution and allow the boot. Give preference to the VGA Mode to allow you to set the resolution to a lower configuration. Setting it in Safe Mode may not transfer the setting to normal mode. Internet is also possible in Safe Mode with Networking.
