My external hard drive stopped responding during defragmentation. I was able to recover the data with EASEUS date recovery, but it is fragmented so bad that it is useless. Is there a way to fix this? Or better yet, is there a way to fix the drive so that I can try the defrag again to fix the fragmented files? Help! It is a Fantom Drive 160 GB usb external.

... good... with the drive hooked up right click "My Computer" click manage double click "storage" ... you could try the defragger!

.... I was going to suggest double click disk management ... right click the external usb drive option "format" ...thats with your saved files else were of course .... then copy them back on!

I did what you suggested on the first line. The drive does not show up in the disk manager. V does show up in my computer where the drives are listed, but if i right click on the icon and the properties box comes up, it will only let me see the shortcut information. It will not allow me to go to general info. I get an error message of: the name specified in the target box is not valid. i have tried other means of accessing the drive with no joy. So my first question still stands. how do I remove or change a partition so that I can get a command line into the drive that will at least let my computer access it for a defrag?
