ok, well, heres the problem, i got an external hard drive to backup and store data, it was working fine until i got an error, it said "you should check for disk consistency" or somthing like that, and so i went to do an error check, and i restarted my computer to commence the check, and it got through the first drive (the External), and i canceled the second(master, internal), and now i think that when i plug in the external hard-drive my computer tries to run/boot off of that, its making me really angry and frustrated and now i get an error message that says "the operation failed : I/O error" or the like. i really need that hard-drive to back up data and i have movies for my ipod on it, so i need it, please help, any would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Go into the Computer Management file and see if the drive letters was switched somehow. Then check the "boot sequence" to see if that drive was written in as a boot devise somehow.

Start-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-"Highlight Disk Management in the lower-left section". You can change the drive letters on the right.

Start-Control Panel-System-Advanced tab-Startup and Recovery-Settings -- Click the "EDIT" button to see if the external drive was added as a boot devise. You can erase it if it did.

thanks, but there is nothing saying in the edit that taht one comes first, it doesnt say anything about a second drive, and whenever i plug it in, the hard-drive activity light on the external goes extremely active, and the one on my computer doesnt turn on at all

Can you try connecting the drive to another computer and try to get it working?

This happened to me once or twice and it solved the problem.
