Comment:
When I use my WD 1TB external hard drive with my computer (Connected through eSATA, USB or Firewire) the boot up times are much slower. It stays on the BOIS screen for minutes sometimes. It boots up fine without it.

It is slowest on the slowest computer with the least memory. The computer has to read the configuraton of each partition and do a small amount of testing. I have a drive that takes more than 15 minutes to be properly identified, If it is shut down in the identification cycle, it may take a very long time the next time as it tries to fix the errors it may have.
