My enclosure for my hd can handle usb 2.0 and firewire. Which is faster in the real world not theoretically and also is it possible to hook both usb and firewire up at once and enhace the bandwith that way?

In real world that would be firewire, and NO! you can't bridge the two.

Latest version of firewire is faster than usb-2; 800Mbps as against 480Mbps...
