OK...I've been here before with this problem and you guys have been great, Thanks for all your help...BUT, the problem persists...
I get very slow internet, sometimes pages take minutes to load, if they don't time out first...some will just disconnect because it's taking too long...other times pages don't fully load...and so on...
I have updated all drivers, reinstalled XP, and after awhile uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, I use the Stumbleupon add on and when I click to stumble it can take forever to load a site and maybe not even change pages it's so slow...BUT, speakeasy.com gives me internet speeds of 20,000down, and 3,000up...I've upgraded my internet service to a faster service, and they say everything is fine on their end...I have recently exchanged the modem cox supplied for a new one and still have very slow internet...I use a router but I've eliminated that because I get the same service without the router installed...direct from modem to PC it is still very slow...I sometimes will hook my laptop to my network and it has displayed the same symptoms while hooked up to this network and my roommate as well says the same as hers is attached to this network...my laptop works just great on my friends wireless connection at his place so I know my laptop is fine...this leads me to think it might be the connection to the modem from outside...??
If anyone might know what I might be experiencing here, please help....thank you in advance for all you can do...
The modem is Scientific Atlanta DPC 2100R2....
The hookup out side is split a couple times to service another apartment but the cable guy didn't see that as a problem...go figure..thanks

From my personal experience I think it could be due to either DNS resolving or due to misconfiguration and firewall of your router. I have a zyxel router and had similar problem. The problem was, the router used to wonder around and could not find the gateway. So I fixed it by explicitly mentioning the gateway (ISP address) in the internet connection settings.

Hello...this is phantalon following up on my request for help with extremely slow internet...I think I found the problem...
It seems to be a piece of cable or a barrel connector on the drop to my modem...Go figure...I've replaced the cable and find that my internet is as it should be...BLAZING...

I am going to watch this for a few hours to see if I am correct but I think this is the problem...

The response concerning my router from 'mbshinde78'...was helpful and thank you...but I did have the same problem without the router...so I checked the cables and found what I think is a bad one...

Thank you all for your help
