Since yesterday my computer began to act weird, the computer freezes up randomly (sometimes while watching a movie or surfing the internet, or sometimes when it just starts up) the weirdest thing is i can still move my mouse cursor around, or press ctrl alt delete (task manager pops up but i cannot click anything at all) i can even use ctrl esc to show the menu or click start+d for desktop.. the thing it that whatever i try i cannot click anything at all.. nor close anything or do anything else with my keyboard.. the only thing that helps is holding down the ctrl alt del keys on my keyboard since every time the new taskmanager pops up i get like a small fraction of a second where i can click something, so i keep ctrl alt delete pressed and then click on explorer.exe task as fast as i can to end the procces, only after i close the procces succefuly everything responds again, ive been checking out alot of forums but cant find this problem anywhere, i was hoping someone here would know a solution for me? thanks in advance!

What is the suspect process? It sounds like you are infected. Spyware/ malware, trojans, viruses are all possibilities. The most likely is Spyware/ malware. This usually manifests itself gradually though. Download and run after updating. Adaware 2007 & Spybot Search & Destroy 1.4. Before that you can help some by going into internet explorer> tools> internet options> delete files> delete cookies. Empty the recycle bin. After running Spybot use the immunize function to prevent reinfection. Look below for links to these utilities. http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/

i tried that already, also a mistake in my OS, im running Windows Media Center SP2 not XP Home, i did a full scann with Superantispyware, ran nod32 virusscan, also used spybot but nothing found, right now i am sure that Explorer.exe is the process that keeps everything frozen, i tried sfc /scannow command but after scanning it asks for Windows XP Professional CD2 wich i dont have (only have media center 2005 cd2 but it doesnt accept that one) seems like some virus/trojan infected explorer.exe.. right now i rebooted the PC and its working again, but im sure it will freeze again within minutes from now forcing me to close explorer.exe again (wich takes alot of time since i cant click anything)

Hey Loco, I have the exact same problem. It started happening about 2 days ago and nothing I did seemed to fix it. At first I did hard shut downs (cuz nothing worked) and then soft shut downs but everything still hanged like you mentioned in your post. I did exactly as you said and started ctrl+alt+del about 500+ times and ending every process I could to see if it would fix the problem. Likewise, it was also my explorer.exe that caused it. I ran sfc /scannow just now and I hope it fixes the problem. Just a heads up, you'll need both the Windows XP Pro AND Windows XP Pro SP2 CD. If you don't have both, well you can get it from certain places. :) I'll post back if I notice the problem again. If you don't see another post from me, then you can safely assume the problem has been fixed. :D
