Every time I have been shutting down lately, I get the popup:

Ending program: Explorer.exe

I click end now to shutdown.

Why is this happening?

I had the same problem and, after a bit of messing around, found that editing the register will get rid of the "End Now" box. You have to make 2 edits, one in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MicroSoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer and the other in HKEY_USER\.Default\Software\MicroSoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer. In both of these, you have to change the "ShutDown Setting" to 2.

This gets rid of the box. Good luck.
