The Story: so i had a virus on my pc, and i couldnt get it off. so i reinstalled my os (i get frustrated when things dont work perfectly) and now i have a fresh copy of win xp pro(yes i did a full format of my HD). then I purchesed Norton Internet Security 2005 (nice program, i like it better than any others ive tried). Then i downloaded all the latest updates.
The Problem: if i walk away from my PC for ten minuites, i come back to find that the task "Explorer.exe" is takeing away between fifty and sixty percent of my CPU. If i go under the procceses tab in task manager and end procces, then im idling at about one percent CPU. Then i go to new task and type explorer.exe and everything if fine (idling at one or two percent CPU).

Try exiting or disabling your Norton program and see what it does.

Do you have any Spyware or other programs working in the background? Generally the icons for these programs are in the system task bar. Have you disable all of those programs? Are you on Dial-up or broadband? I'm thinking that something could be updating or monitoring your system while at idle. Give the above a try.
